I've got a PC here with Win XP. I turn on the PC and get an error message and it needs to reboot. I can't get into safe mode, tried last known good config, and I tried doing a repair through the recovery console, but I don't know the administrator password. Is there anyway to fix this problem or do I need to reinstall? there's a bunch of info on the PC that I need and can't lose

Stick in your Win XP CD and boot from it. You're given an option to do a repair when the setup screen appears.

Use Knoppix.

You'll be able to access your Windows partition, where you can copy the info to a secondary CD drive (hopefully you have one).

Microsoft really needs to come out with a Knoppix-type thing.

isn't that just like putting your HDD in another PC with an all ready existing OS and transferring your stuff to it? That still doesn't solve the problem of recovering my old OS though.
