OK so I have not been keeping up with video card tech. and now I am completly lost...

SO what is the best chip set???

We have here..

geforce 6200
6600
6800

probally the bigger the better right?

then we also have

geforce FX 5200 5500 5700

geforce -4 mx 4000

OK so do the number tell all??

or do they not?

currently Nvidia's best video card is the Geforce 6800 Ultra
if you get PCI Express or PCI-E, you can get 2 and put them in what's called SLI
SLI is using 2 video cards to render the one screen, to theoretically double the performance although it usually turns out to be roughly 150%

but doing that can get expensive real quick

currently the order of Nvidia's cards are:

Geforce 6800 Ultra
Geforce 6800 GT
Geforce 6800 plain / Geforce 6600 GT
Geforce 6600 plain
Geforce 5950
Geforce 5900
Geforce 5700
Geforce 5600 / Geforce 6200
Geforce 5200

the best value for money seems to be the 6600 GT at about $200 USD, but some people say the 6800 GT at about $350 USD is best to get

oh I am planning on getting a PCIe video card for sure..

IU was thinking nvidia 6600 pcie

I think that might be good

(I hope I'm not hijacking the thread here...)

Question: What's the difference between the Ultra, GT, and just the 6800? Besides the huge price difference, of course...

@flex clock/memory speed plus the GT and Ultra have more pipelines than the standard.

@sonikbaby dont get the standard 6600 its useless against the GT and the GTs arent that much more.

^^^ Yeah the GT's and Ultra's are the only cards you should considerer

Also make sure not to get XFX. Their cards have had major problems lately. And their tech support is not upto par either.

if you have the money for an ultra get the gt and overclock it to ultra speeds, and beyond them. and with the spare change spend it on something else that is a bit weaker in the system.

also I have an XFX and im not having any problems with it.

Not every XFX card has problems, but alot do because of their cheaper manafacturing process.

And I am assuming you have never tried to RMA your card...
