Well you can't exactly count the 6600GT and 6800GT in the same class.

less core speed and memory speed on a 6800GT would still be faster.

You want an AMD 939 3000-3500, 1 gig-2 gig ram, and either a 6600GT, or a 6800GT, going lower is not worth the few dollars you save, and make sure you get a good PSU, I like Antec and Enermax, both these manufactures win awards for the units all the time and are considered 2 of the best.

IMO, you should wait a few months, but no-one ever listens, so just make sure you get a compatible system, with a good PSU.
The PC world is moving to PCIe, and your GPU options are probably going to top out at X850XT, so if you can wait a few months you could get a PCIe system, and use the X800XL, the best high end PCIe card out there.

I like Sparkle 6800GT, not sure about which is the best 6600GT.

eVGA 6800GT...$379

eVGA is a very good brand that makes high quality cards. Don't worry about overclocking or after market cooling, both of those cards perform very well stock.

memory is not as important as the gpu. a 5200 w/ 256mb does not come close to a 5700 128. memory is nice, but there are not that many games on the market now that need that much, except for maybe eq2. i highly advise the 6800gt. its done wonders for me!
