thunderbird

I have been using thunderbird. And I have a few questions.

I assume that it saves the emails some where on the hard drive. Where does it save them? If I were to wipe my drive and do a fresh install, how do I load the emails back in? Also It only loads the new emails from my university account. How do I load the emails I have already opened?

i'm not sure about this but thunderbird probably has a function export where you can export your mails.
