DVD burner dead?

've been using my DVD burner a lot lately, and now it seems that for it to read a disc, it takes a long time. If I try to copy a disc, it takes nearly 6 hours. Burning time seems normal, but copying is outrageous. Its an 8X Lite-On burner, SOHW-802S. Anyone have any ideas? Can the burner just burn out... at even less than 100 burns total?

And this is the note on Firware...
"Lite-On SOHW-802S, no firmware available (OEM drive for Dell PCs)"

Have you tried on of those cd cleaners? I think it might help.
