No way any processor of this day and age would become unstable from a 40mhz clock increase. Just slowly increase the FSB and reboot each time. As soon as Windows becomes unstable, then you go back to the BIOS and slowly increase the vcore. Keep in mind that once the vcore starts to increase, so will your temperatures, so be careful and monitor your temperatures.
Nothing very severe can happen, the worst would be your CPU reaching a dangerous temperature and shutting down to prevent damage, in which you would just flash your CMOS to correct the problem.
