Can't figure it out...

I built a comp for a friend over the Christmas holidays, and it's been working fine. He tried the floppy drive for the first time and it won't read the disk. In BIOS, the floppy is connected, and windows shows that it is connected as well. However, when you insert a disk, nothing happens. I assume since it is read by the computer, the problem must be a faulty drive. Any other thoughts?

make sure it's not just a busted floppy disk

Make sure the Red cable on the floppy cable is nearist the RED cable on the power cord to the floppy.
