no the 2.8 isnt hyperthreading - thats the thing and neither is the 2.0 that im using right now - my mobo only supports the 3.06 northwood hyperthreading and i cant find that anywhere- if i get the 2.8 non-hyperthreading will i still see a good increase?

didnt you post something like this already?
it does not really matter, hyper threading just let you run more programs at the same time at the same rate. but it is still okay 2.8ghz is already fasy enough, but i suggest you get the 3.0ghz.

northwoods arent made nemore, the only chance uve got is to find one 2nd hand

when you boot, see if you can get into your BIOS setup usually by pressing F1, del or esc (it varies between different motherboards)
and you should be able to enable it in the CPU options
if not, you may need a BIOS upgrade to use it

Hyperthreading is not always a good thing, and sometimes actually decreases gaming performance
it makes the OS believe that you have 2 CPU's, so it will send an instruction to the "second CPU" while the "first CPU" is already processing one. this way, the CPU can process more than one thing at a time

but a lot of applications, particularly games, are not optimised to take advantage of dual processors.
