Ram info

I have a kingston value ram 246[400mhz] x2
I was wondering if I upgrade to a kingston Hyper X 400mhz or a Corsoir xms pro 400mhz will I lose performance because I know that a ram will downgrade if another ram with a worse speed is installed. Also the ram stick will be 512mb, and I only have 2 256mb [total 512].

Yeah,

Your RAM will operate at the highest bus speed possible your motherboard can take, but at the lowest bus speed of all your individual RAM DIMMs. Best to get all your RAM DIMMs at the highest speed your motherboard can take...then consider the amount of RAM.
