Mail defaults

In the control panel there is an icon for mail, but the profile can only be set up with outlook. I dont want to use outlook, I use thunderbird, and I am wondering what I need to do to set it up to work with thunderbird.

the control panel found under start > settings > control panel.

That is used only for Microsoft products. It's an MS applet that is used to configure their mail systems. Unless Mozilla finds a way to replace, or over write the information used for configurations, then I don't think it's a possiblity.

I dont use IE, I use FF. Will this work?

your IE is directly related to the MS stuff within the machine.
If you have the option through IE to choose the default program of your choice choose it...
Access the settings through your IE but don't make IE your defualt internet access.

I don't think this will work, but you can try it... the mail applet in the control panel is installed when you install office and is only setup to manage mail in outlook, not even outlook express.
