No video when laptop is connected to the TV

I can hook my laptop to my TV with an S video cable and everything works fine except when I try to play a video in windows media player. It will show up on the laptop but shows up black on the TV. Whats the deal here?

look on ur keyboard find the Fn button (usually blue) most likely inbtwn the ctrl and alt key to the left bottom then while holding that down find a button on one of the F1-F12 buttons that looks like a screen to a screen of says lcd on it
that should make the laptop to show up on ur tv

I can get it to show up, but when I play a video the video itself won't show up, it's just black.

no i know what this is-- go into ur display properties, and then settings. Then click on Advanced, and go to the Troubleshooting tab. Lower the Hardware Acceleration slider down a few notches. I'm almost positive that this should do the trick.
