This problem just came up. I cant seem to get a dvd to play correctly. It was playing just fine before. I have a dvd drive, advd software, codecs, everything, it was all working fine before. But the dvd wont play in wmp, power dvd, windvd. Windvd is the only one that will play it, but with no sound.

The only thing that changed was that automatic updats downloaded some windows updates:

Security Update for Windows Messenger (KB887472)
Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 1.1 Service Pack 1 (KB886903)
Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer for Windows XP (KB867282)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB873333)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB888302)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB890047)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB888113)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB885250)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB891781)

These were all downloaded, and then this problem arrieses. I would make a guess that it might be the net framework that caused this.

How do I go about fixing this problem, so I can play dvds once again.

Thanks.

I scan the add remove programs window and see two microsoft .net framework files:

Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Hotfix (KB886903)

I am assuming that It is the second one that I remove. But I just want to make sure that this will solve the problem, and not create any more problems.
