DVD/CD-RW Drive Problems

I have a dell laptop with a DVD/CD-RW Combo Drive, model GCC-4240N. The drive is behaving erratically.

It won't burn blank media, giving "Invalid write state" as the error in Nero.

If a data CD is inserted, the drive will click a few times then stop, without reading the disk.

DVDs work fine.

Both the drivers and the firmware have been updated to the latest versions and a clean install of the drive has been done. I've also disconnected the drive and reconnected it.

Any suggestions?
