Right now I have the standard retail heatsink and fan that came with my CPU. That stupid thermal pad melted all over the CPU, and now I'm trying to decide what to do before adding Arctic Silver 5 with the new heatsink. Is it OK to use rubbing alcohol on the actual core of the CPU? I've heard of people using high percentage rubbing alcohol on the heatsink to remove paste, but what about the CPU slug itself?
