ok, so i'm building my first pc an VERY excited.
its:
AMD Sempron 2200 Pro Processor
ASRock K7S41GX mainboard
1GB DDR Ram
80GB Hard Drive
ATI Radeon 9800SE 265mb

i will be running XP

can anyone suggest a step by step guide for a build for me, i would be very very greatful :) including installing windows etc

Thanks

make sure your screwdriver's not magnetic.
take your time, makin' sure everything is sitting right

i dunno if there really is a step by step....your processor will most likely come with a big poster of how to install the processor and heatsink...just take your time with that making sure you are doing it properly.

but anyway..here's how i do it.

secure the processor and heatsynk
put in the ram
put the mobo in the case and screw it in
put your cd-rom, hard drive, floppy in
connect the ide's
put in your graphics and other pci stuff....
hook up the power.

ok...yeah alot of people have said to take time...hard for us impatient ones.

After all the hardware is in.....i boot up....then what? i havn't been educated thus far yet .

partitioning is creating logical drives on the physical drive. For example the "C" drive, is a logical drive. To keep it simple you will just want to create one partition for the entire disk which will be the C drive. It walks you right through it on the xp cd.

ok thanks!

also...i have 512mb of ram (DDR) and also want to add another stick of 512mb, this i will be taking out of my Dell 2400. And replacing it with a stick of 128mb ram. Will this cause any problems with the Dell or in my new comp?

ive been told it's better to use sticks of the same make for stability...

First look through your motherboard manual and get to know your
mobo up close and personal. If you still have it I would use the
foam pad to sit your mobo on when installing CPU/heatsink. Try to
avoid sitting the board on a hard surface because this can cause
solder joints on the board to pop out or loosen. DONT BEND OR
FLEX MOTHERBOARD IF POSSIBLE-or any of your cards ie: video,
sound etc.

Touch the pc case to DISCHARGE static electricity in your body-you
know that little shock we can give to our friends when we walk
on our carpet and then touch our friends arm-not very good for pc parts.

With the mobo in front of you and out of the case, I would do the
following:

Double check ALL the jumper settings per your mobo manual because it is easier to do OUT OF THE CASE.

Install your RAM

Install CPU/Heatsink-Fan
