Have you tried typing in msconfig under start > run? Then going to start up and limiting the number of programs that boot with windows? Also how many programs do you have running at any given time? Are you sure its not spyware or a virus that could be doing this. Another good program to tell you if you need a to see what is running on your pc is procexp. This will break every task down into what is running it, and whether of not its a system task.

Exactly what I was about to post.

definitely try the msconfig idea- that should do it- if you have to, select only to load the essentials. look at the locations and all and determine what is spyware, virus, or other crap, and what you actually want. :)

Go to the last tab on the right. Look at all the programs listed there. Some will be obvious what they do, others won't. For those you can't identify, plug them into the search engine on this website: http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php

Turn off the ones you don't want. Hit okay. Restart. Windows will probably complain that you did something when you boot back up, but just hit the "Ignore" checkbox on the message when it comes up, and relax.
