Ok, I have a Dell Dimension 2400 that I want to slowly upgrade. I found a stick of 512 PC3200 DDR here. Here are the specs for my PC, I'm not sure wether my pc is 2100 or 2700 but I was wondering if the 512 stick is compatible with my system?

Thanks in advance.

if u buy a 512 stick of 3200 then it will run at 2700 speeds... so either buy completely new ram or buy another stick of 2700 ( wouldnt reccomend that )

but if his dell runs ram at 2700, getting 3200 wont make any difference, because the motherboard wont run it at anything other than 2700

I just want to make sure before I buy it because thats the cheapest 512mb stick of ram I could find. I did find a stick of 512 PC2700 but it costs around $89 bux. And since I dont really have a money tree or a job yet, I would rather go with the 3200.

So you guys are saying that the 3200 ram will work on the pc but as if it was a stick of 2700 right?

yup...so if you are paying anything extra for the PC3200 (200MHz) speed it's pretty much a waste (could get cheaper PC2700 (333MHz) for same performance and less $$$$. Unless you plan on keeping the RAM for a later mobo/PC that can take it...but by then it will still be pretty old RAM i believe.

Do you have any idea where I could find the cheaper ram that you speak of? I've looked everywhere and so far the 3200 is the cheapest on my list.
