Recently I had to reinstall windows over itself.

My problem is that I cannot open any Microsoft Office programs. They are still on the hard drive, but I get errors when I try to open any of the programs in the suite. This is also the case for a few other programs besides Office.

Besides reinstalling all my software, what can I do to make the software on my hard drive usable again?

When you reinstalled windows over itself, you wiped out your registry. the applications are still within the program files directory, but the registry entries for these apps were removed. you have to reinstall the applications.

I understand that. I wasn't sure if the new registry actually *wiped* the old registry, or if it created a new registry and left the old one inactive.

Was hoping to take the old one and somehow use it again.

You should have done a repair instead of a reinstall.

Anyway, fixing office won't be hard, since you can just put the disk in and have it repair the installation which should sort things out.
