Hello I need advise please.

I am trying to figure out if buying this: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-125-140&depa=1

or this: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-141-008&depa=1

will work with this: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=13-138-019&depa=1

If not maybe some one could point out another cheap vid card solution. Btw the MB is already purchased and installed.

It seems simple enough but I do not want to make any mistakes. This guy wants his computer fast and he does not want to spend hardly anything.

I personally like the FX5200, it is a good all-around card that I have used in a lot of different apps. I run one on my home PC, and have had it for about 2 years.

It also has the DVI port on it, in additon to the VGA. That will give your customer the option to go with a DVI monitor in the future or run dual monitors in the mean time.

The chipsets on both the MB and the video card have both been around for a while, I would think that all should go well with your combo there. I cannot say for sure, but I cannot see why you would have a problem.

I wouldn't reccomend trying to play half life 2 on it with that card, but general useage should treat you fine ;)

Good Luck!

The 9550 wins by far, check out the futremark benchkarms as the 9550 completly rapes the fx-5200

My p4 1.7 got 800 with an fx-5200, and my uncles 9550 does 3k in a p4 3.0

9550 is also overclockable

agree w/ everyone else, that the FX-5200 is an all around decent card for basic computing and minimal gaming.

the plus of that card is that you can use dual monitors if you or (your friend) decides that later they would like a 2nd monitor.

the 9550 will give you much better longevity and will play games much better (newer)...however it does NOT have DVI, so it can ONLY have 1 monitor setup, but if you don't care for 2 monitors, then...

i would go w/ the 9550 for it's better performance.

but if i were you...impress your friend and get MSI 9550

for $10 more bucks, you have a faster card w/ 128mb AND 128bit as opposed to the other Gigabyte one w/ 64bit.
AND w/ this card you have the ability to use 2 monitors as well.

and MSI is a much more reputable company IMHO.

good luck.

well...that P4 3.0 gHz w/ the 9550 is in a completely different ballpark compared to a P4 1.7 w/ 5200...

of course it would "rape" the 5200 setup...

Even with the same processors, the 9550 owns it.

The processor speeds are very different, but 3dmark 03

The highest stock FX-5200 is 1511 3dmark 03's

The highest stock 9550 which is my uncle's, is 2309

The 9550 also is a much better OC'er with the higest 3dmark03 4324 compared to the fx5200's wimply 1715 highest oc

I know benchmarks are not everything, but the 9550 mops the floor with the fx-5200.
