hi there...
i need help choosing the right hardware parts....and even the case...this is my first time building a computer and not getting one of the shelf....i was going to get a mac but then i wont be able to play any of my games....
i kind have $1500....that i can spend on one good computer that is going to last me for sometime ..and i can upgrade when ever i want to ......but im willing to spend more if it going to make a big diffrence
mostly i am going to use the computer for 3d modeling(maya 6..and 3d max)with some photoshop cs..after effects..flash..with some other graphic softwares...and some online gaming (hl2,doom3,halflife2..etc).....i kind read on some threads that amd is better for gaming and intel is better for 3d appalication and graphic softwares....but i kind do both..so pleas help me build a nice copmuter....
one more qusition.....does the brand of the parts matters when building a computer?
thank you for your help...

just to get you started. I recomend a Athlon 64 socket 939 system. Either a 3200+, or a 3500+. 1gb ram, and a 6800gt. Those three makes a good start for a great computer.

i agree go the the athlon 64, and make sure you get at least 1gb of ram. As for different brands of parts, it does matter as some brands are better and more reliable than others. Check out peoples reviews who have already bought the parts, before you buy.

i kind suck with hardware so if you can give the spics in detail that would be great...thanks

one more thing...the amd Operating Frequency: 2.4GHz and the intel is3.4..why is the amd better....?

Because the AMD does more per cycle (cycle is one of the 2400mhz) This way it does more things, making it faster without having a higher clockspeed.

Also with AMD, you will loose a few seconds on rendering with 3d. AMD is the route to go, as you wont notice a few seconds rendering and stuff.

Revolution, your really doing alot of tasks on that computer. Witch those tasks demand the best of AMD and Intel. So it really depends on what your going to be doing alot more of. People say that AMD is only usefull for gaming, and Intel is ameliorate for everything esle. Intel are ideal for 3D Rendering and Encoding! And of course AMD is ideal for Gaming. But besides Gaming, Encoding, and 3D Rendering, AMD and Intel come neck to neck.

So if your doing more gaming then get a AMD, vice versa. But if they are mixed, then AMD would be better. Like i said, your doing some high demand usage. I suggest a 3500 Winchester.

Heres the link to the AMD64 3500 Winchester.

This is the AMD64 3500 Newcastle, witch is slightly cheaper.

check out my post here, this is just about what you are looking for:

all you need for that is a case, monitor, and prefirals and a harddrive.

For the HD, i suggest any SATA (though a pain to set up, the performance is well worth it) hard drive.
you can choose what size you want it, i posted a link to a 7200RPM 160gb HD. 80gb is enough for me, but it depends on what you use it for. Since you do some video editing, you should get a bit larger harddrive. Its up to you really.
