The motherboard is socket 754 but I was wondering should I avoid the "deal" and just get a 939 Socketed board because of the ability to upgrade more with a 939 board compared to the 754. If so would this board be fine for my selection

Not overclocking just need some more "technical insight".
 
AMD no longer makes new processors for the 754 board. Your upgrade options will be limited to what is already on the market.

If you go with that 939 board you will need a 939 processor.

edit: you could also try and find a board that supports both 754 and 939 but newegg only has an asrock.
 
Do you know of a 939 processor that's about 2.0-2.5ghz?
For a nice budget price?
