video to pc (urgent help PLEASE)

im not sure what the problem is but ill explain.

I have a sony video recorder sort of late model lcd screen, touch sensor you get the just of it anyway i want to put the videos onto my computer and my computer wont recognise the cable connecting the two. my computer is a amd athlon xp 3000+ and windows xp home edition but it wont recognise it and i dont know exactly where to go.

any help at all?

What cable are you using to connect your video recorder to your pc? Also where are you hooking this cable up to on your pc? Most often you need some sort of capture device to be able to take video off of an external video recorder and put it on your hard drive. Do you have a device such as this?

im using a usb cable im not sure what version it is. and how do i check if i have a capture device?
