Help me Choose the Right RAM

Hi I was thinking of putting more memory into my computer. I went to the website that tells you about the product info. This is what it says:

RAM: 128/2100 DDR
Max: 1 GB
Speed: PC2100/PC1600
Type: DDR SDRAM
DIMM Slots: Two

Now im guessing DIMM Slots is the number of slots you have to put memory in. what does 128/2100DDR mean? and the PC2100/PC1600..i know it means the type of speed but is their anything more in depth.

Furthermore just to practice to see if i was able to find a compatible one on the internet i came across 3 different memories (it doesnt necesarily mean im going to buy the ones that are on the list). I have the links of each one....so if anyone could take the time to look at them can you tell me if they are compatible with the specifications above?

I guess i got lost on the number of pins that they showed in the catalog i believed i saw an option of 160 something and 184 pinn.

Hi,

Get the best you can get for your mobo.

DIMM means dual inline memory module. Which means the channels are split up, if you know about SIMM, they would require two 72 pin channels to link up. DIMM does not. I suggest pc3200 at least. ANd find some better prices Hope this helps/

so does this mean im not forced to use the RAm specified by the product info and i can go above the PC 2100.

I suggest 2100, you could get faster, but at your own risk.

And go to tigerdirect.com for ram, dont get that walmart shit, thats way overpriced.

Yeah, generally you could get say a stick of pc3200 kingston valueRAM and it'll simply be underclocked to PC2100 speeds with timings that of high performance RAM since it's underclocked.

However sometimes it can be a gamble as the board may be anal about it and not let that PC3200 run in it at all.

Generally you can find PC3200 cheaper than PC2100 because you can like I said get valueRAM but I'm not giving a full guarantee that it'd work in your system althoug 9 times out of 10 it generally does.

ok i was searching at true computer stores and i found 256mb PC2100 for 39.99, the thing is there are three of them and i dont know what is the difference or if the difference really matters.
