Im giving my mam my old system which includes 512 ddr400, but i can get my mate to swap it for 768 ddr266, which do u think wil be better in her system, its got

amd xp 2600 (256 L2 cache)
msi kt6 delta
geforce 3 ti200
10gig 5200 HDD

anyhow she doesnt want to spend any money on it and willl only be using it for goin on the net a downloading pdfs and other documents and word prossessing.

I would just stick with the 512MB 400MHZ stick

Yes, stick with the 512, even though 256 would be enough. You don't need fast RAM for word proccessing either.
