xp reboot

Hi this is a real strange one. Been building computers for years and this one has me baffled. Machine is a p4 2.4 with 512 ddr 3200 60 g maxtor liteon 16x dvdrw+- with liteon cdrw. Has a seimens board and a ati 7200 64m card.
When you go to search to find a folder it reboots. Everything else seems to be working ok. Thought about repairing windows, but would really like to know what is causing this and the real fix..

Virus maybe? Reboot into safe mode perhaps and scan it?

turn off automatic restart so you can see the error on the bsod. that could help you pinpoint it
