Here is how you do it in Windows XP:

Right click on the Disk Drive in My Computer > Select Properties
Click on the Hardware Tab and select the Drive again
Then click on its Properties
Then you'll see a drop down box that says Device Usage
Change to Disable
Your done

(only works on slave drives)

You can't turn off the drive and still write to it.

HDD coolers are cheap, dude. Here, look: HDD Coolers on NewEgg

If this is a laptop, laptops run hot. Try buying one of those laptop cooling pads, like this: Notebook Coolers

That should sort you out.

Its is a slave drive Shoobie so it will be writing to my master drive, so that should be any problem should it?
Newegg dont ship to Australia but thanks anywayz man

Thanks Turtile will that turn it off and then can I turn it on again when I need it?

EDIT: I went ahead and tried it and it doesnt turn it off. Its a desktop btw people.

I guess you can't turn off one drive. The only other option is to turn all the hard drives off.
Maybe a hd controller would have a feature like this.
