Has it ever worked? Is this a new install of the OS?

that is a hardware failure, unfortunately when it ahppens you have to format the drive. but still you can take your frive and plug it in another computer to see if you can save your staffs. try to run one error checking on your drive. if nothing works then you ahve to format it again. how? whit the windows xp cd when you boot up you computer from the cd.

so you've tried formatting in Windows but not DOS? maybe use your Win2K CD to format the drive - I still use FAT32 on my 40 gig drive for compatibility

i tried to format in windows then i tried with the windows 2k cd but both said they were unable to format so I'm jus guessing its gone , .. and it worked find the day before it stopped working

take it to another computer, dont do anything till you have tied everything to save your staff. if not then is a hardware failure.
