Hard drive crashed

I have Sony with XP home edition. Computer was on for a couple of days and I found that computer could not boot and asked the system recovery disk. After puting system recovery it told me that I need to partition my drives. After clicking yes I found error 0x1 saying no fixed disk found. Any ideas or suggestions for sorting this problem would be appreciated. Thanks.

It's gone, no bringing the HD back.

Unless it's working, and you did something terribly wrong.

Delete the partitions and make newones using FDISK or XP setup.

you do that in the XP recovery console, pressing 'r' at the first screen when you boot from the XP disk, or by using a DOS boot disk

Then type "DISKPART" to get to the partitioning options.

Thanks for advice. I pressed r after start up. Nothing happened. I got into microsoft agreement screen. When I clicked okay it comes back to the same error 0x1 no fixed disks present. i gave command fdisk on dos the same answer I got. No fixed disks present. Please advice.

You should definetely check the cables connecting to your hardrdisk.

Pick up your hard drive and move it around it around a bit. It should feel like a gyro and feel like it's heavy than light ect.

If it doesnt feel like this, it's not even spinning

check the jumpers, making sure it's set to master or cable select, and make sure bot the IDE and power cable are in correctly
