ok, i got a new motherboard. in the manual, it says it takes the following type of RAM: "3 x 184-pin DDR DIMM sockets for up to 3GB unbuffered ECC and non-ECC PC3200/PC2700/PC2100/PC1600 SDRAM memory" My other motherboard used PC100 RAM. Can I put some of that in this new motherboard? i've never heard of PC1600 RAM. might that be the PC100?

No you wont be able to use your old ram. PC100 is non ddr ram... pc1600 is the ddr version of pc100. As far as i know if your mobo takes ddr it wont take sdram (unless it has seperate sdram slots). But as far as i know you cannot use SDRAM in a DDR Ram slot... so I dont think your old ram will work!
