What is faster P4 1.7ghz or a Celeron 2.6 both 400 fsb

I am running a P4 1.7 ghz cpu but I am wondering if I should upgrade to a 2.6 celeron. I am trying to upgrade without buying a new mobo, cpu, psu, and case, because I am saving to build a super rig, but I want more power on my current pc without overclocking because I'm on a dell now and besides a few pieces they are completely unupgradable.

ok change the P4 1.7 to a P4 2.56, celerons arent that good anyway, up the ram a lil bit ..either overclock, or buy new sticks...just one stage should do,,,then you will be good to go without spending a fortune.

Its pretty hard to pick witch processor to choose from lol. I guess get the Celeron, with 512mb of RAM.
