booting a cd

I have a 1 year old toshiba laptop. I wanted to boot linux from a cd but it when i restart the laptop it doesn't boot up. I heard you have to press some buttons to enter BIOS and fix it there but no such luck. Any pointers on either how to enter BIOS or another way to boot up my cd.

Press delete, f1, f2 and f12

Should get you into bios

i tried that crap. doesn't work at all. It starts up, says the toshiba logo then goes straight to the windows xp startup.

go press them all very rapidly again.

I guess i'll try that later but i'm not expecting anything new so any other advice would be great.

Have you tried holding "c" while booting, Im told this will boot the cdrom but Ive never tried it.
