I have used many Macs and in my experience they have been reletively unstable. I had my computer (XP Home) running for 2 months straight without a crash. The only reason I didn't shut it down was that it wouldn't shut down. I later found out that the mouse software was causing the problem and started shutting it down every night. Mabye I should keep it on again and see how long I can go. :)

Thats good to hear that your PC is stable; one of the lucky ones. PC's can run stable and for long periods of time; that is a known fact. But, unfortunately, a majority of PCs sold are not stable (device conflicts, software/driver problems, etc.) and require a lot of work to get them going. Macs are very stable because Apple has a ton of control on how things interact with their OS and their machines, greatly reducing the chance of a crash or lock up.

Hi Ho, I would be happy to give you a race. My PowerMac Dual 867 (10.2.6) has its uptime pegged at 4 and a bit days right now (due to power failure). Want to see how far we can take our machines?

I know, you have the disadvantage in that you do not have a professional grade operating system but then again I have the disadvantage that I host a website, use my PowerMac as a remote compile farm for this PowerBook, debug vast amounts of system accessing software and use it for such things as games, spreadsheets, internet surfing, chat, calendar, e-mail, etc. What do you say?

12:42PM up 4 days, 13:28, 3 users, load averages: 2.33, 2.20, 2.11

As you can see, some extreme load averages (I have dual procs) and more than 1 user (myself, root and developer).

I kept my computer up 2 months at a time. I do not host any servers, programming, gaming, and porno.

I do like Mac's myself. Even though I do not own one yet except my Macintosh Plus 8MHZ :p

"porno"? Since when do I need to look at porno?

As for Macs, I now have 3 and I only switched 3 years ago. Not a bad tally. I moved in with my Windows using mate about 4 months ago...we are getting him a PowerBook G4 shortly and I am upgrading to a G5 as well...kinda strange when there are two people and 5 computers.

My last major uptime was 41 days and again, that was killed by a power failure.

Yes, I had two power failure two times in two days. I do prefer Linux over Mac though, because Mac requires a computer made by *MAC* thats one thing I DO NOT like about Mac.

By then again, Mac is based off Unix I believe.
I do like the G5, but all my favorite Apps won't run in Mac... thats what's stopping me from getting it.

Aww, come on you don't look at ANY porno? No fun :) you're the first I've meant in 6 years that doesn't look at porno, gosh that is sad...

Is the Mac OS hard to learn? Or is it more user-friendly now? I used MAc OS 6x.. ;x
