Problem with DVD-RW Drive and Enclosure

I recently purchased this dvd burner:

and this external usb enclosure:

When I had the drive in my old PIII 733mhz, it could easily burn at 6X (I didn't want to test 8x). Now that I have the drive in the USB2.0 enclosure and hooked up to my 1.6ghz pentium M laptop, the max writing speed is about 4x. Nero will recognize that it SHOULD go at 8x, but when I set it to burn at 8x, it still takes nearly 15minutes for a full dvd, just like a 4x burn.

Any suggestions?

Hmm. This doesn't seem to be the same problem as the one you have linked me to. I think the problem is the enclosure. I've upgraded to the latest firmware on the burner and still get nothing past 4x. I may end up sending the enclosure back and getting a different one....I hate wasting shipping money :/.

Any other ideas?
