xp and compaq evo N115 PLEASE HELP

whenever i start my computer it automatically goes to the screen asking me to start from safe mode, last known config, and regular. well, i click on them and it kicks me back to that same screen. over and over again, until finally after doing it a bunch of times it finally goes to windows. i just reformatted the whole harddrive and it did it before the reformat and after. what could be wrong?

Turn off the comp and boot in SAFE MODE

Turn off the comp and boot in SAFE MODE and try to do a system restore.......
That might work in some cases
