Windows XP mailto: issue

Welll the problem i'm having is that when I click on a mailto: link in IE (haven't tried in other browsers) it freezes and pops up about 50 windows and with mailto:email@address.com in the address bar.

This is a big inconvenience so I was looking around for possible solutions and in IE's configuration there's the option to set the default mail client. In mine Outlook isn't even there. It has nothing in the dropdown (Tools > Internet Options > Programs > E-mail dropdown)

Any ideas why this is happening and how I can fix it?

you dont have outlook express and that is waht it is looking for, as far as popping up a whole bunch of windows, i have no clue, you might try scanning for viruses, or doing a spyware sweep, or just download outlook express from kazaa or maybe even windows update

if it is in a popup window (IE window) try getting a popup killer

i never use outlook, just outlook express - it works good enough
