Does anyone know if the sony dru710a supports bitsetting? I have an NEC 2500a and I have already dowloaded the firmware that allows bitsetting. I have searched but cannot find anything on the subject (wether the sony bunern supports bitsetting), I need to bookmark my DVD +R as DVD ROM's as my stand alone player will not read +R's (just found that out, thought it did but had always used -R's). I have bought about 100 discs or so and do not want to have to burn with only one computer (the other one has the Sony burner) any info is appreciated. If this is the wrong forum please let me know where the right one is.

yes underneath everything that sony is really a ricoh drive (ricoh support bitsetting). A lot of dvd burners are really ricoh's. there a trick you have to do to switch it firmware to show it's true model, though i don't remember it. I think you were to rename your ricoh file to the sony one

Thx for the reply, this is a great forum and have been helped on more than one ocassion. After my post I read somewhere that it was really a rebaged Liteon read here:

Sony DRU-700A (rebadged LiteOn SOHW-832S)
• VY05 - patched - enabled bitsetting support (old)
• VY06 - stock - unscrambled (old)
• VY08 - stock - unscrambled

bitsetting is a process in which greater compatibility for +R disc is acheived by changing the booktype to DVD ROM read here:
