Plextor DVDr px 708a speed problem

For some reason while burning burning movies on a dvd-r format i cannot get it to burn fasater than 1.2x, the max speed is supposed to be 4X's does anyone know how i can make it burn at the maximun speed?

What is the software in question? You are backing up your DVDs?

well i figured it was a hardware issue .

It may be. It could be the media. Try a different kind. I asked the software because some have a setting to override speed detection.

its weird becuase everything else burn at the correct speed, i'll put this question in the software forum.
