Hello, I have just installed windows XP Professional(upgrade) and he doesn't recognise the DVD reader or the dvd writer.
Both are on the same IDE cable.
I tried putting the cable in the other IDE slot but it didn't work either.
Can somebody help me ???

you need to give more details. what the name of the writer? what software are you using? do you have it set as master or slave?

Well , There were no drivers in the package. But I allready had them installed under windows XP home edition, but I had to upgrade.
They worked great under the home edition.

Reader: MSI DVD 16/48 Black
Writer: NEC DVD Writer ND-3500 Black DVD-R/+R 16x Dual Layer Bulk

And they were both installed properly. because as i said allready, they worked fine under XP home, untill i upgraded

the ide controller is linked to the south bridge. have you installed the latest drivers for the south bridge?

Have you ruled out the cable being bad? If they were being seen under XP Home, XP Pro should see them also. Did you do a clean install of XP Pro or did you install over XP Home. The XP Pro disc can be used for a clean install. A question....why did you upgrade to Win XP Pro?
