Hello,

I'm currently wanting to configure a system from scratch. I already have the graphic card, sound card, hard drives, etc..

All I need is the processor(which I pretty much have it narrowed down to)

and I need a motherboard and memory...

The case and PSU I can get on my own.

I just want help finding the best components both compatibility wise, and performance wise.

I'm thinking of the Pentium 4 3.2E Ghz or the 3.4E Ghz... if anyone wants to help me put one together, please reply here or icq me: 93665589...thanks!

Mostly for applications...I currently have an athlon 64 3400+, but I'm selling it...I got the Athlon cause I played more games then anything

but now I am going to be needing it more for video editing, photoshop, etc... gaming is also a top priority, but I prefer Intel..

Right now I have the following components that I will throw in the new system:

ATi Radeon X800 Pro 256MB
Sound Blaster Audigy ZS
36.7 GB Raptor 10k RPM Primary Drive
200GB Maxtor 7200RPM Secondary Drive

I'm also huge into overclocking. However, I am not too famililar with water cooling installation, so I might stay away from that and just go with a full copper heatsink and a fan..

I want to OC up to 3.8GHz - 4.0GHz...

I have about $700-850.00 to spend on everything other then what I just mentioned(listed above as components I already have)

You are wasting your money just by ripping apart your old rig for some apps. The A64 3400+ is a great processor. I'm not going to post a setup here because getting a P4 will give you a boost in power apps, but an A64 will do slightly worse.

I'm just not happy with the A64...I have used Intel all my life, then a friend recommended A64 so I built this...just not what I expected.

Will make sure you get a Hyper Threading model for intel you can goto www.tomshardware.com and watch a video on the two cpus agianst each other on video editting appz,
Thisis what i would use for memory

For the moatherboard

Heatsink

and get this Paste better then Quicksilver stuff

Other then that get rounded cables and 4 80mll case fans to keep a strong air flow

I use the Swiftech heatsink and its great, but extra cooling wont kill you if you get the GeIL High Performance Copper Thermal Compund I still reccomend 2gig's for video editting

God man, the 3400 are great processors. If you have a Clawhammer, then your insane. But either way, the 3400 will still do great. This type of processor is one of the high-end Athlon 64's, so it will do just fine. But you really are just wasting money.

But like i said, the 3400 is a high-end Athlon, its alot more flexible then the 3200/3000 Athlons.
