Ok guys, i got a inverter that gives me 500w of power at 240v in my car.

PC power supplies.. their stated power is that their maixmum draw or maximum output as i can only use 500w... i.e. if i was to have a 500w power supply would it work on the 500w inverter or would it actually be drawing more than 500w ?

That's not how PSU's work, Skuzzle.

If you have a 500w PSU, that means it has the maximum output of 500watts to the system. If your system is only drawing 300watts, then the PSU only gives 300watts.

First, make sure you have the right voltage set on your PSU, else you'll do damage.

Second, you'd better have that car running while you do this, or you'll be needing the jumper-cable upgrade.

Third, make sure the PSU is a stepping power supply (should be, unless it's like 5 years old or something).

Fourth, if the voltage switch is right, and the cars running, and you backed-up your files like a good little nerd...then try it. You'll know right away if it's not going to work.

Um...you're not planning on having this car driving around while you're using your computer, are you?
