I would recommend the MX1000. Best gaming mouse I have ever used. I have had 0 problems with it. And if you want the best experience, grab a Func 1030 Competition Mouse surface.
What Shakie said is exactly what I said, you can't go wrong with the MX1000. I also have one of those special mouse mats and I did notice a diffrence as it seems to be even more accurate.
I hadnt had any problems with my 510, the users complaining must have got shiny surface beneath, which every other Optical MOUSES can show problems on.
other than this, MX510 is not Lazer technology as you mentioned. these MOUSES have Optical technology.
This won't really be heplful to you because you live in the USA but here is the link to the special gaming pads and all you have to do is the one you like just copy the name and do a search in Google or something to see if they sell it in America.
