Basic question about overclocking

im just learning about OCing and im trying to understand the ram bottleneck issue...below it says my cpu fsb is 204 but my ram runs at 163. does this mean that there is no point in OCing the cpu because the ram cant read as fast as the cpu now??? This may be dumb but im just confused on this issue. Thanks people

Yeah you've basically got it down. Your CPU total bus is 404 an your RAM is at 333. You can still get the extra clock speed from your CPU and yes this still helps, but only a little since as it is your RAM is bottlenecking your system. The CPU calls on the RAM and the RAM can't answer back quick enough basically.

Sounds like you got the basic idea down though. Not to sound like a teacher or anything, but remember, the only stupid question is the one that goes unasked ;)
 
hey thanks for clearing that up for me. I have a few other questions...Everest shows my CPU fsb at 200 now how does that get to the 800 that the CPU is supposd to be at? now i know that you take the 200 cpu fsb and the 15 multiplier to get the actual clock speed? so the second part being true then the CPU doesnt really have a 800 fsb? whats up with that??Anyway so i just need to get that 163 memory bus above the 200 cpu bus right? can i OC it to get it higher or do i need to upgrade? Is my ram that crappy :)

Ok so i went into bios last night and was tinkering around. I set my memory ratio to 1:1 and that took my memory bus speed upto the same as my cpu fsb speed. Now I didnt add any voltage because i rebooted and everything seems to be working just fine. now when i benchmark my ram i get a good bit hight read and write scores but my latency went from 2.5,3,3,7 to 2.5,4,4,7
Is that ok to have it like that? also i wasnt sure how else to OC the ram in my bios because it only shows me mhz for Cpu,agp,pci....Would the pci be the rams mhz?
