i reakon u should get a 754 socket 64bit 2800 or 3000+ cos thats in ur price range if u were to get the 3000+ u could oc it quite a bit. then get an abit KV8-Delux a seagate hdd corsair/geil memory and a nice case if u wanna oc

thanks everyone for all the examples. I want to try to stay at 500 but if i cant please tell me how much i need about (i already have hard drive, cdr drive, dvd drive, floppy drive...).

Rather try get a XT version its way better than the PRO and should last you longer.

Yip that card is pretty good but , if you can get the extra
$25 , you should get a 9600xt

should i go 64 or XP? what vid card 9600XT or Pro or 9800Xt or Pro?

It all depends on how much money you want to spend. The Atlon 64s will be better than the Athlon XPs, but more expensive.

Video cards go from 9600 Pro, then XT, then 9800 Pro, and then the 9800XT. Again, prices go up though.

currently the nvidia 6800gt is the best graphics card value vs performance wise, so try for that. If you cant afford it the 6600gt is also fairly good.

Go for AMD 64 and a 6600GT instead of a 9800XT.

Also overclocking should be no problem but I suggest you read up a bit more on it before you attempt it or you could seriously damage your computer.
