How do i stay cool and not go above 45-50 degrees on a AMD 64 3400? I bought the retail, so it has the retail fan, or w/e it is.

Im a newb... sorry guys. But thx a lot if u can help me!

welcome to the forums bro... u definatly came to the right place.

the compound that comes with the k8 cpus are full of shit. the first thing u wanna do is slap on some arctic silver 5. the stock heatsink and fan is also very weak. thermaltake and cooler master make some great quality products as well as a few other companies like arctic cooling, etc.

if u have n e questions that u would like answered immediatly... i'll be here for a while.

p.s. if u want some recommendations on some great products... i have no prob helping u out.

I would recommend either the Coolermaster Aquagate Water Cooling or the Gigabyte 3D-Cooler GT 2004 Edition which I used to have. My idle temps went as low as 27degrees sometimes and around 35degrees under load.

I'd still recommend the water cooling but if you don't wish to pay that much then stick to the Gigabye fan.

Hope this helps :D

the stock coolers are not what you'd call "crap"
okay they're far from what you'd call "great" but they do the job okay if you don't really want to spend more money

just make sure you have at least some thermal paste (a very thin layer) on the CPU

Ok, i wouldent go with any of those recommended heatsinks. Before i got mine i did alot of looking around. Heres a great site to get computer hardware. The absolute best heatsink you can get for Athlon 64 is going to be the Swiftech MCX6400 V. It has a copper base, and tons of pins.

For the absolute best CPU fan. I highly recommend the Vantec Tornado! This 80mm fans has 84-CFM. I own both the cpu fan and heatsink i suggested. With this cooling system, you will be able to OC, with propure case cooling setup. This fan is not silent at all, but if you want a cool CPU, this fan is going to help ALOT!

Heres the Heatsink.
