dvd writer boot problem

hey iv been trying to install a dvd writer inplace of my dvd rom but when the dvd writer is installed the computer fails to boot and shows the "Boot Failure Reboot and selet proper Boot device
or Insert Boot media in selected device". there are no other dvd rom drives or cd drives in my pc i took the old dvd rom out and put the new one in. whats going wrong with it? cheers

Get into your BIOS and make sure your hard drive is on the list of boot devices. Make It the floppy drive 1st then the hard drive 2nd. If you ever want to use your DVD R drive as a boot drive just put in a boot disc and select the dvd r as your f1st boot device.

cheers but iv sorted this out now the jumper was on the master pins just needed to switch it too slave
