this is my first pc build from scratch, so i'll list my system spec...

AsUs A8V Deluxe w/ VIA K8T800pro chipset
AMD 64 3000+ (socket 939)
2x512mb Crucial pc3200
PowerColor 9800Pro 128mb w/ 256 bit
Augidy LS 5.1
Logitech Z-5300 5.1
Seagate 120GB
Western Digital 15GB
NEC 12X DVD burner/CD-RW
NEC 52x CD-RW/DVD
Enermax ATX case
XP Home w/ SP2
Nec 17" flat CRT
Samsung 17" CRT
Logitech Elite corded keyboard
Logitech MX510 corded optical
3 led 80mm
1 120mm
Aspire 500watt PSU

so my problem(s) arises ONLY when i open 3D intensive games/programs and even MS Word! it reboots the whole system not just crashes to the desktop.

i tried to install/re-install Thief III and patched the game, i get only 10 minutes or less in the game and it reboots the whole system

so i thought maybe it's the game, so i tried the PainKiller demo, i got farther but still it reboots..

i've tried already to...

update ALL drivers AND uninstalled/re-installed bios, CAT 4.12, audigy, mouse/keyboard
turned off VPU recovery in Catalyst Control Center
ran memory tests and they are fine
used 1 stick at a time, and still reboots
uninstalled SP2 cause i heard it's not game friendly (really?)
switched out the 330 PSU that came w/ the case to the 500watt Aspire, still reboots!
tried the VGA card in my older P4 system and runs fine.

it's difficult for me to pin point if its a hardware or software compatibility issue(s)
the CPU is at a steady 32-36C
the mobo is at 26C
so i assume it's not a heat issue.

it's begining to affect my sleep!
i'm running out of avenues to cure this problem.

i really hope it's not the VGA card, maybe the new drivers are a bit buggy?

again, i can surf, listen to music, watch dvd's, the basics, but when it's game time....i lose.

please someone out there help me get this running!
i'm dazed and confused!
thanks...

^^ hey python,

funny enough,

after much, much headaches, i decided to re-install windows.

but it wasn't the re-install that cured my woes, but when i was

installing the A8V mobo drivers

i realised i had missed one major major driver....

the actual AGP 3.0 driver for the mobo!!!

i couldn't believe i had forgotten about it, just because it is my first

mobo, my last computer was a Vaio so everything was tweaked

when i got it.

i took it for a test run on 3DMark03 and i scored 5912!!

very happy now...left it on all night, and hasn't crashed once!

i'm really kickin myself now, but glad it was just an easy fix.

this is my first full build from scratch, and i'm glad i don't have to

RMA anything back!

all's well that ends well.

i haven't gamed in over a month!! trying to get the parts for this

thing.

this is going to be a good weekend!

thanks again!

cya.
