missing drive letters ...and cdrom.inf is corrupt

How do you know the cdrom.inf is corrupt? And is the cd drive one of the missing drive letters? Does it show up in device manager?

Also, it would really help if you gave specs of machine and alos info about your cd drive ie internal/external what kind of connection USB etc and what happened before they went missing--cos o/wise people tend not to reply...

well i fixed my problem but it seems that my system is runnin a little unstable . i ended up reinstalling over the current windows xp installation.i believe the problem arose when i realized that diskkeeper defrag prog. was not running on system boot so it had been 5 months since any defrag .drive was 78 % fragmentedon a 20 giga byte hd.internall dvd 1601 io magic dble layer drive one floppy installed on a dell dimension 2100.
