Hi, I'm trying to decide which processor i should get from newegg. It seems that the P4 2.4 Ghz w/ HT has the most votes, followed by the P4 3.0 Ghz w/ HT and then the 2.8 Ghz w/ HT. There's some athlon XP's in i between the 3.0 and the Amd64 3000+. Should I just get one of the intels, the amd64, or a athlon xp 2100+?

A summarized view_________________________
- P4 2.4 Ghz w/ HT $148
-P4 3.0 Ghz w/HT $188
-P4 2.8 Ghz w/HT $199
-Amd 64 3000+ $149
-Athlon Xp 2100+ $89

If your on a budget......AMD 64..........if you want performance though.................AMD 64..............If you want overall usablility....................AMD 64

I highly recommend the AMD 64bit processor, but there are some advantages that Intel can provide if you are doing alot of video editing and sound editing and stuff, but if your doing gaming, then AMD is the way to go. All in all you should get near the same performace with an AMD with the video editing to an Intel and still save some money.

Well str8lazy said it all.
AMD for gaming and perfomance.
Intel for video editing and sound editing and multi tasking.

I would have to say get a
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 2.0GHz, 512KB L2 Cache 939-Pin 64-bit Processor - OEM
(limit 2 per customer) $196.00 http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProdu...-103-500&depa=0
as Masterjason said.

It can OC nicely and is more future proof (last you longer).
