DVD+R is slightly more advanced. It is about 15% less compatible than DVD-R.

DVD+R is generally better for data, and DVD-R is generally better for video. DVD+R burns faster as well.

I've always had the same question in my head too. Can anyone give a more detailed explination?

i have always found that DVD-R is more compatable with DVD players but maybe its the US thing but i can hardly get any players to play DVD+R

DVD-R is the original DVD format, and is prefered for video, which is what DVDs were originally designed for. The newer DVD+R format is designed to work more with DVD ROM drives and has faster data read and write speeds.

Also, 96 percent of DVD players are DVD-R compatible, and 84% are DVD+r compatible.
