im tyring to use a laptop HD to my desktop using WinXP.
im used an adapter and attached the laptop HD.

the problem is I cant get inside the laptop HD.
when i go to device manager,it is there.
but when i explore My Computer there is no additional drive.

i also tried to go to Admin Tools > Disk Management to initialie but it wasnt there as well.

when i go to device manager > volume > populate, it gives me this info:
Disk: Disk 1
Type: Unknown
Status: Unreadable
Partition Style: Not Acceptable
Capacity: 0 MB
Unallocated Space:0 MB
Reserved Space: 0 MB

the laptop HD still has an OS in it Win2K.
any ideas on how i can make it work?
thanks!

the file format in the laptop HD is NTFS.
i want to be able to open the HD and reformat it using XP.
the problem is i can see it in the device manager but nowhere else.
using a boot disk wont work either.
i need it for XP to detect.

thanks!

i dont think it is a problem with the adapter.(im not sure of the brand though).because it can be detected but only in the device manager.compatibiity problems,i dont know.if it werent compatible,it wouldnt show in the device manager either right?
im not sure, sounds like a hopeless case....i hope not.

:(

this might help.
i set the jumper on the back of the laptop HD as slave.

is wasnt still found in disk management.
but when i went back to device manager it was there and tried to check on the Populate.

instead of getting the message i previously posted, i got this one.maybe im getting a little closer on getting the right anwer.

this is the message:

Volume information for this disk cannot be found.
This may happen if the disk is a 1394 or a USB device on a Windows 2000 machine.

what is a 1394 anyway?

I think it's saying basically that it knows the disk isn't an IDE drive or whatever your adapter converts to, maybe because the disk is not designed for IDE it cannot correctly function as an IDE drive

if it cant function as an IDE,
then does that mean that i cant use it on my desktop?
is there no other way around it?

thanks!appreciate the help!
